What a sight!— and it was right there all along! We’ll uncover it together in one of the most breathtaking spots on the Costa del Montgrí: Illa Mateua.
But we’re taking it one step further. As you learn to identify species, you’ll be contributing to real science. Through the Observadors del Mar citizen science platform, your observations will help researchers better understand the effects of climate change on the abundance and distribution of climate-sensitive fish.
On land: we’ll cover the ecosystem basics, how to use species ID guides, and how to log your findings for a real scientific project.
In the water: we’ll explore alongside a marine scientist — observing, recording and hunting for the star Pokémon of the underwater naturalist world.
Recommended for ages 6+, always accompanied by a responsible adult. The session is designed to carry out the survey in pairs or small groups — little ones can help the grown-ups make sure no fish slips by unnoticed!
What to bring
Swimwear and sunscreen.
Included: mask, snorkel and fins. Bring your own gear if you prefer.

Included:
DISCOVERY talk and guided session: accredited subaquatic guide by the Parc Natural del Montgrí, Illes Medes i Baix Ter, with a degree in Marine Sciences and experience in underwater sampling and environmental education.
Guide trained in Sea Rescue and Safety.
Full snorkel gear (mask, fins and snorkel tube).
Optional add-on: Personal accident and public liability insurance: +€8. Full-day coverage.

Between 48h and 7 days: free date change, no refund.
Under 48h: no refund.
Weather: full refund or free date change. The decision to cancel due to weather rests solely with the organisation.
Accessibility
The activity takes place at Illa Mateua, accessed via a set of steps. Due to the nature of the location, there are some accessibility limitations. We encourage anyone with specific needs to get in touch beforehand so we can work out together whether the activity is suitable and how to adapt it — so everyone can enjoy it to the full.
